Roseanne Conner

Roseanne Harris Conner is a fighter. Whether she's battling the memory of childhood abuses by her father, arguing with her husband/high-school sweetheart Dan, her best friend/sister Jackie, one of her children or the battle of the bulge, struggle is a way of life for this Domestic Goddess.

Roseanne Harris certainly had her dreams; more than anything she wanted to be a writer. But time and circumstance conspired against her, and now her dream is but a nagging frustration. Even her children know what their mother gave up for the sake of her family. When presented with the opportunity, they pitch in to build her an office, carved out of a portion of the basement, with each of them providing that which they feel is most important to their mother's chances to follow her dream. Yet Roseanne finds that writing must constantly take a back seat to more pressing matters of day-to-day familial survival. In time, her future son-in-law David ends up taking residence in the room that was to be her office.

Roseanne's heart is as big as her mouth, and when put to the test, no sacrifice is too great to make for her loved ones. She may tell them to "Go play in traffic!" but she would surely get between them and an oncoming truck to save the day. When Darlene suffers a bout of appendicitis, it's Roseanne who fights the insurance company (and wins). When Becky elopes with Mark, it's Roseanne who explains to Dan that fighting with their eldest daughter will only drive her further away. When D.J. discovers the art of erm, self-gratification, it's Roseanne who (much to D.J.'s chagrin) ends up explaining the facts of life. At first glance, Roseanne is all rough exterior and biting sarcasm, but underneath lays resplendent the Domestic Goddess.
